Choosing a photo shoot location might seem like a big deal, but it really doesn’t have to be difficult. A location usually drives some of the other decisions you will need to make about your shoot. So it’s important to choose the right place.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you decide on a location.
Make sure that your location doesn’t become a distraction and that there is shelter nearby if you need it. Your location tells a story, so it’s worthwhile to choose a meaningful spot.
In my most recent senior session with the beautiful Teah, we headed to downtown Milford, Michigan. From the grounds at Central Park to bridges, railways, the historical architecture, and the water feature just north of town, this quaint little village offers a lot options for any type of photoshoot.
Starting at Central Park, we took photos on bridge, by the water, with wildflowers, and at the amphitheater. Before heading off to get some photos with the architecture, Teah was able to utilize the restrooms within the park for a quick outfit change.
From there, we headed north on Main Street and snapped some shots in front of POSH, where the walls were covered in ivy and the door was painted a fantastic teal blue.
As the sun started to set we kept going north and finished the shoot, at our third and final location, the water fountain near Sweetwater Café.
All five items above were considered when picking this location. As the photographer, Teah left the choice to me, and I knew it would be perfect for the images she wanted. As we moved from one location to the next and I showed her the images on the back of my camera, she would exclaim, that is my favorite one! I am so glad my location choice did not disappoint.
