This spring I ran a Mother’s Day Giveaway, where anyone could nominate an amazing mother they knew to win a free photo session. Some of the submissions were so moving and it was hard to choose, so I created a panel of some of my closest friends and sisters to pick one of the top three submissions. Unanimously, everyone selected the same one. Grab a tissue and read what Amanda had to say about her wonderful mother Denise
My mother Denise is a real life hero. She always puts others before herself. She has managed a group home for mentally and physically challenged adults for close to 40 years. In addition to her full-time job she acts as a third parent for her three grandchildren (my children) and has a part-time job caring for a little girl with special needs. I always say my mom wants to save the world. Especially when it comes to children. I’ll never forget growing up we had a neighbor who was very poor. One year at Christmas, my mother played Santa and provided a Christmas for this family. She left a large sack of gifts on their porch. Now keep in mind we didn’t have a ton of money growing up but my mom is thrifty and will always do what it takes to provide for her family and for others. That incident was probably over 30 years ago and it still sticks with me today. My mother and I are only 18 years apart. For being a single and very young mom, I think she nailed it! I wouldn’t be half the woman I am today without the support, influence and guidance of my own mother. I would love for her to be considered for a free photo shoot. Thank you so much for your consideration and happy Mother’s Day!
Well, this past weekend, Denise cashed in on the free session. She brought with her, her equally wonderful daughter and grand children. It was such a blessing for me to shoot these photos for such an amazing women.
Amanda, thank you so much for sending in a submission for your mom. It was an honor to meet you both. Like I said before, you seem equally amazing. It was also touching to witness, that even on this day, your mom was still giving of herself by helping with getting the kids shoes. Enjoy the sneak peek, XO – Kelly Harper
