Last weekend, I had the chance to meet four photographers, which I connected with in a Facebook group for Amy & Jordan Photography students, at You’re So Fancy studio in Royal Oak, Michigan, for a headshot swap. This studio was a great space for our photoshoot and had plenty of natural light and beautiful backgrounds to choose from.
What made this experience even more special was how well we all clicked right away. Despite being strangers, we quickly found that we all had fun personalities and really liked each other. We laughed, shared stories, and made each other feel at ease in front of the camera. It was like being with old friends!
Swapping headshots with other photographers is valuable for several reasons. First, it’s a great way to build connections and network within the industry. By exchanging headshots, you not only get to meet other photographers in your area, but you also get to see their work up close and personal. This can lead to collaboration opportunities, referrals, and even new friendships.
Additionally, exchanging headshots can be a great way to improve your own photography skills. When you’re taking photos of other photographers, you’re essentially getting a free lesson in posing, lighting, and composition. You can observe how they interact with their subjects, what techniques they use to get the perfect shot, and how they edit their images. All of this information can be incredibly valuable for your own photography business.
Overall, if you’re a photographer looking to expand your network and improve your skills, I highly recommend finding a group of fellow photographers to network with. Not only is it a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also lead to new business opportunities and long-lasting friendships. And if you’re in the Royal Oak area, be sure to check out You’re So Fancy studio for your next photoshoot!
Girls, thank you for making this so fun! Meeting you all and exchanging headshots was priceless. Not only did we create some beautiful photos, but each of you made the day so enjoyable. I truly appreciated your willingness to share your knowledge and ideas, and I look forward to staying in touch and collaborating in the future. XO – Kelly Harper
